Hispanics in Philanthropy Celebrates the Opportunity for an Era of Hope
“HIP looks forward to collaborating with the many Latinx leaders across branches to ensure all families and communities in the United States feel safe and protected.”
Washington, DC — Hispanics in Philanthropy recognizes the historic significance of the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and the number of newly elected and appointed Latinx officials to the legislative and the executive branch. President and CEO, Ana Marie Argilagos shared the following words.
“Today’s historic inauguration brings to life a new chapter with the opportunity to define an era that is rooted in our radical love for humanity, dignity, and justice. The act of insurgency displayed just a few weeks ago on our capital by white supremacists has been replaced with commitments to rebuild trust and heal through accountability and action. While we take moments to reflect on our resilience in the face of hate, let us also move toward hope. Let us take action with a refreshed drive to support our communities, partners, and loved ones through difficult challenges. We have a long road ahead of us to healing, but we are here to ensure that philanthropy is committed to investing in rebuilding a more inclusive and multi-racial democracy for all.
“We are proud to witness the record-breaking number of Latinxs across all areas of the government that pledged to build a truly reflective democracy. We also applaud the diversity of the President’s cabinet overall. There is so much work ahead to accomplish with the Biden administration, starting with bold calls for equity against the intersecting systems of oppression that our communities face. In the philanthropic sector, we must continue on this journey to reflect on the prejudices within our own organizations, the sector, and our communities in order to center and deeply listen to people of color who need the resources and funding to thrive.
“HIP looks forward to collaborating with the many Latinx, Black, Asian, Brown, Indigenous and LGBTQ leaders across branches to ensure all families and communities in the United States feel safe and protected. We will continue to impact philanthropy, public, and private sectors to harness our platforms courageously and mobilize bigger and better resources across our communities.”
