HIPGive Raised Record-Breaking $250,000 During #GivingTuesday
HIPGive’s #LatinosGive Crowdfunding Campaign Donations Surpassed Expectations
HIP raised more donations on Giving Tuesday this year during its #LatinosGive campaign than on any other single day in our history, reaching $250,832 in total donations and counting! Of the total, $200,832 USD in personal donations were contributed via the HIPGive crowdfunding platform, and $50,000 USD in matching funds were donated by sponsors.
Thanks to the support of Kaiser Permanente, Newman’s Own Foundation, Fundación Tigo, Google, and Fundación Comunitaria Puerto Rico, HIP provided double the amount of matching funds that were contributed in 2015.
More than 1,090 unique individual donors used HIPGive to contribute, including a new donor, Martin Melgoza. He commented, “HIPGive has created a place where Hispanics like myself can be a part of an effort with the sole focus of promoting causes that greatly help our community in need.” He supported nonprofit projects based in Haiti, which are some of the 80 new projects that were uploaded to the platform this year.
In addition to the increase in the number of organizations represented on HIPGive, 1 in every 6 nonprofits on the platform exceeded their fundraising goals. These included the Asociación Futuro Vivo in Guatemala that will build a school for children, ConTextos of El Salvador that uses literacy as a tool to prevent violence, and Ayuda A Corazón de Niño A. C. of Mexico that supports children with heart conditions. Nonprofits based in the U.S. that serve the Latino community also exceeded their goals on #GivingTuesday, with projects based across the country from California and New Mexico to North Carolina and Virginia.
Not only were there a record-breaking number of donations made and total funds raised in a single day via HIPGive, but more funds were raised on the platform this Giving Tuesday than in November and December of last year combined. And contributions are still coming in, even after Giving Tuesday. We will continue to work with nonprofits to help them raise funds throughout the holiday season, as the #LatinosGive campaign continues.
On the inspiration for #LatinosGive, our President Diana Campoamor said, “In these divisive times, it’s important, now more than ever before, to celebrate generosity. It’s important to recognize that the millions of individuals in the U.S. who give do so because they understand that we’re all connected, and that it’s a privilege to be able to help others.”
Nonprofits can continue to upload projects and benefit from donors’ support as the giving season goes into the new year. Prospective donors are welcome to donate by visiting HIPGive.org.
