Investing in Girls’ Education in Mexico
By Dana Preston
During 2017, HIP began exploring ways to expand its gender equality work in Mexico. As a natural complement to our current focus on reducing the many types of violence that women experience in their homes, at their jobs, and during migration just to name a few, we asked ourselves, what kind of upbringing did these women have as young girls? What opportunities did they have? To answer that question, we began mapping international and national actors that are investing in young girls in Mexico, specifically education. After conversations with more than 30 experts from the public and private sectors as well as civil society, we learned a great deal about how philanthropy can address the current needs of Mexican girls today.
