HIP matching donations up to $20,000 for #GivingTuesday

Hispanics in Philanthropy matching donations up to $20,000 for #GivingTuesday (SAN FRANCISCO CA) November 30, 2015 – The first Tuesday in December has become known around the Internet as #GivingTuesday. Coming on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the largest consumer holidays of the year, #GivingTuesday is the largest global day of giving. In 2014, over $45 Million was donated on #GivingTuesday to charitable organizations around the world. Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is hopeful that many consumers will direct their generosity towards its online giving platform HIPGive.org, in support of Latino causes. HIP’s mission is to strengthen Latino communities by encouraging Latino participation and leadership throughout the field of philanthropy. This #GivingTuesday more than 60 nonprofit organizations will be raising funds through HIPGive.org to directly benefit Latinos from the United States, to Haiti, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Mexico and beyond. To celebrate the giving season, HIPGive.org, with its generous partner Kaiser Permanente, is matching donations dollar for dollar up to $20,000 between 12:00am PT and 11:59pm PT on #GivingTuesday (December 1). Andrea Perez is the HIPGive Project and Marketing Coordinator for HIP. She says, “We can’t argue the merit of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Everyone loves to find deals on gifts. But we really are hopeful that the spirit of giving will make its way through HIPGive and that the wonderful organizations making a difference in the Latino community will be supported. We know Latinos are givers.” An example of the meaningful projects seeking funding at HIPGive.org is one which will empower Peruvian women by teaching them how to foster their entrepreneurial ideas. The project’s goal is just $5,000 which will be used to train women in financial literacy, leadership, Internet use, and similar consulting services. The purpose is not only to raise funds for Latino communities, but also to help reshape the national narrative by encouraging Latinos to share everyday stories of how they give back to their families, communities, and society using the hashtag #LatinosGive. Perez states, “We are very excited to see people and organizations coming together this #GivingTuesday to do twice as much good in the Latino communities.” She adds, “This also a wonderful way for everyone to spend those end of the year tax dollars on charitable donations.” For more information #GivingTuesday and information on how to donate, visit HIPGive.org CONTACT Andrea Perez p: 415-223-8262 e: andrea@hiponline.org w: hipgive.org
