Hispanics in Philanthropy elected three new members to its Board of Directors this year.

Gabriella Gomez, of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Tara McKenzie Sandercock, of The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, and Cynthia Rivera Weissblum, of the Edwin Gould Foundation, were elected during HIP’s annual membership meeting on April 25 in San Francisco.

Gomez is the deputy director of policy, advocacy and communications for U.S. programs, and leads the team responsible for engagement strategies to support Gates’ Postsecondary Success agenda. The Harvard graduate previously worked as head of the U.S. Education Department Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs and as acting assistant secretary for the agency’s overall budget and policy efforts. In Congress, she was the lead higher education policy advisor to then-House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller, and was also an American Federation of Teachers lobbyist. Early on, she was also a recipient of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Fellowship.

McKenzie Sandercock is senior vice president of foundation and community relations, for The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and a former HIP board member. Before joining the foundation in 1997, she served as director of education for the Council on Foundations and also as director of program development for the Center for Early Adolescence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She serves on the boards of the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research and the Center for New North Carolinians.

Rivera Weissblum is president and chief executive officer of the Edwin Gould Foundation which operates a not for profit accelerator  in New York  City  that invests in, houses and supports entrepreneurial leaders focused on  issues and solutions addressing college completion for low-income students including academic preparedness, college entrance and persistence, career development  and student debt.

She previously served as director of the New York State Mentoring Program and later as CEO of Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, one of the nation’s premier college success organizations. She also serves on the board of Philanthropy New York, Year Up, uAspire, The Rockefeller Institute and The Fund for Modern Courts.

The three join an 18-member board, which also includes three emeritus members. Board member Miguel Bustos has joined the expanded Executive Committee as an at-large officer. He is the Wells Fargo senior vice president, community relations, and outreach regional director for Northern and Central California, Montana, and Alaska.
