Gender, Race & Power
Fueling the movement for systems change.
Purpose
The Gender, Race & Power (GRP) Initiative takes an intersectional and transnational lens to address deeply entrenched inequities across the Americas. By strengthening a diverse network of grassroots organizations and leaders, we aim to build alignment between movements for racial and gender injustice and catalyze their collaborative and strategic action. We expect our initiative to contribute to larger regional transformations, ultimately reshaping the social, economic, and political landscape of the Americas in a more just way so that our communities can thrive. Through our interconnected activities, HIP will build a robust ecosystem that nurtures leadership, fosters community power, increases civic participation, and drives intersectional progress across the Americas.
Overview
A vibrant new generation of leaders and movements are forging powerful alliances across the Americas to advocate for systems change. These movement leaders have lived experience and a clear understanding of how the intersections of gender, race, and socio-economic exclusion create a complex landscape of inequality and injustice.
By providing strategic grantmaking, capacity building, and holistic healing support to these grassroots organizations and their networks, the GRP Initiative aims to strengthen transnational movements toward racial and gender justice, shifting the balance of power to achieve change from the ground up.
Value Proposition
Our initiative will shift the balance of power in our communities by:
1. Mobilizing Resources: Invest long-term, flexible funding and provide learning and training resources.
2. Convening and Building Power: host healing-centered gatherings and webinars to engage racial and gender justice allies and connect them to a larger network while confronting the trauma of working on the frontlines.
3. Advancing Thought Leadership: provide a platform for first-person stories and perspectives.
