Knowledge and Grants Manager

Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is a transnational network of grantmakers committed to strengthening Latinx communities across the Americas. HIP connects and convenes funders, nonprofits, researchers, and other leaders to identify emerging needs among Latinos as well as best practices for responsive and effective funding of social change. HIP pioneers new philanthropic models by leading collaborative initiatives and has provided grants and training to help build the capacity of more than 800 organizations and leaders. 

Position Summary

The Knowledge & Grants Manager will be a core member of the Programs team, as well as a resource for all staff in areas of knowledge management, grants management, including managing HIP’s new grants management platform (SmartSimple), and best practices for our robust and highly responsive grantmaking across multiple program areas including migration and forced displacement, power building and justice, gender equity, and others. The Knowledge & Grants Manager will center equity and community-driven knowledge in this position and be creative in gathering and managing information sources to inform learning and decision-making across our programs, build relationships across internal teams and with our grantee partners, managing information about and from multiple program areas, creating shared processes and workflows, ensuring existing tools and databases are strategically used and recommending improvements on how we capture and understand data for learning and storytelling purposes. They will also help capture knowledge shared by our partners and the field to inform how HIP refines its work to achieve its mission. 

Core responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and connect lessons from data and other knowledge shared by partners/clients/members/peers/other sources to support refinement of HIP’s philanthropic practices, protocols, and services;
  • Serve as primary project manager for the philanthropic practice program including planning, budgeting, and client services across diverse projects;
  • Engage staff and partners in building new knowledge products for internal and external audiences (including funders and clients), and contribute to development and management of knowledge systems such as a library of partner-centered information and relevant issue research; 
  • Manage HIP’s grants administration processes in SmartSimple and provide partnership and support to HIP staff and grantee partners, including technical assistance and training; maintain integrity of grants data and work across internal teams to anticipate grant cycle needs, including reporting to funders and the field;
  • Propose and implement process and workflow improvements in SmartSimple and grantmaking best practices to best serve partners and the field; and support the Finance team with compliance, grants documentation, and reporting; 
  • Prepare clear and accessible materials that shape complex data into easy-to-use tools for HIP’s board docket, communications, and external facing reports and issue briefs;
  • Organize grantee convenings, workshops, and webinars as needed to support the establishment of communities of practice; 
  • Support the implementation of learning and evaluation frameworks and practices at HIP; 
  • Conduct desk research on core issues and trends in philanthropy; and
  • Other duties as needed and/or assigned to support HIP’s mission. 


  • 5+ years of combined experience in areas of knowledge management or experience-based learning, system administration, grantmaking, and/or project management; familiarity with foundations and grantmaking institutions, intermediary philanthropy, and the role of philanthropy support organizations is a plus; 
  • Demonstrated project management experience with success managing diverse projects and priorities at the same time;
  • Experience with SmartSimple or similar grants management software; system administrator experience preferred with ability to build system improvements and automate workflow;
  • Familiarity with communications and storytelling tools, or willingness to learn; 
  • Enjoys finding stories in data and supporting others in sharing experiences and shaping new approaches to knowledge;
  • Facility with and enjoyment of online research; 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to analyze large sets of data and glean insights; experience with data visualization and/or excitement about presenting data creatively and compellingly;
  • Creative problem solver, strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to consistently meet deadlines and communicate progress effectively; 
  • Commitment to HIP’s mission and values, including racial equity and centering grantee partners, community members, and other partners;
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative work environment with virtual teams across the U.S. and Mexico, while also possessing the ability to work well independently with minimal supervision; 
  • Fluent in English and Spanish preferred (HIP is a bilingual environment with a commitment to language justice).


Hispanics in Philanthropy offers competitive compensation and a range of benefits. This position has a starting salary range of 65,000 - 85,000, depending on location and experience, plus benefits for full time employees including medical, dental, vision, 401K matching, commuter benefits, discounts on services, as well as sick, vacation, and paid holiday time.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

This position requires 7+ hours per day sitting and working from your computer. This is a remote position in the U.S. Some travel will be required. Employees are required to comply with HIP’s COVID-19 health and safety measures consistent with CDC guidelines, and federal, state, and local regulations.
